Case Study: Transforming Black in AI’s Brand & Website to Reflect Its Global Leadership
Client Overview
Black in AI is a global leader in Artificial Intelligence advocacy and thought leadership, dedicated to addressing systemic biases and inequities within AI. Founded to increase the visibility, access, and advancement of Black professionals in AI, Black in AI tackles critical challenges such as the exclusion of Black talent from advanced academic opportunities, the marginalization of Black voices within the industry, and the impact of biased algorithms on communities of color. Already a key player with partnerships involving tech giants like Apple, IBM, and Meta, as well as engagement with federal government agencies, Black in AI required an elevated and innovative brand identity to reflect its standing as an authority and changemaker within the AI industry.
Challenge
While Black in AI’s mission and collaborations were robust, its previous brand identity fell short of fully communicating its established authority and influential role in the AI landscape. The organization needed a unified narrative, brand identity, and digital presence that reflected its leadership role and amplified its mission of inclusivity, advocacy, and community empowerment. The challenge was to create a brand that balanced cultural significance with professionalism, appealing to a diverse audience of AI professionals, government agencies, and industry allies.

Narrative Strategy
Buoyant’s approach began with a narrative strategy that articulated Black in AI’s critical impact and unique positioning within the AI sector. Through messaging exercises and a strategic framework, Buoyant crafted a narrative that highlighted Black in AI’s mission to dismantle barriers and foster inclusivity across the tech industry. This innovative messaging framework positioned Black in AI as a trusted resource for AI professionals and an essential partner for policy and industry leaders, underscoring the organization’s commitment to challenging and reshaping biased AI systems.
Brand Identity & Cultural Innovation
To capture Black in AI’s mission and cultural significance, Buoyant conducted discovery workshops with Black in AI’s board and stakeholders to clarify brand direction and identify core values that would resonate across diverse audiences. This collaborative process led to a bold visual identity that merged professionalism with cultural depth. Buoyant developed a refined logo, mood board, and style guide, establishing a visual identity that balanced cultural innovation and authority, positioning Black in AI as an industry leader rather than a niche advocacy group. The new brand assets, including social media templates, email headers, and business card designs, enabled Black in AI to present a consistent, impactful image across all platforms.
Website Redesign & User-Centered Content Strategy
The narrative and brand identity were brought to life through a website redesign centered on user engagement and conversion. Buoyant partnering with STATUS developed a low-code, conversion-optimized landing page and a content framework that supported users throughout their journey. Workshops with the Black in AI team informed a content strategy that amplified Black in AI’s voice and provided tailored information for different audience segments. The website’s design incorporated dynamic visuals, strategic calls to action, and an intuitive, mobile-friendly layout to enhance accessibility and engagement. Optimized for SEO and equipped with analytics, the new site was designed to grow with Black in AI, offering insights into audience behavior and engagement for continuous improvement.
